Empowering your strength
Support to Find Your Centre

Living alongside grief or illness can shake your foundations and leave you feeling alone, helpless, and exhausted. Life altering events such as losing a loved one or being diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness can impact every faucet of your life and initiate change and transition that can feel overwhelming.
That's where I come in. Hi! I’m Laura. I’m a Mother, foodie, Ceramicist, Counsellor, and nature lover, who has spent nearly two decades working in the field of health and bereavement. Having lived with chronic pain for over 20 years, I understand firsthand how it can impact daily life, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. These experiences led me to work in healthcare for over 15 years (BC Cancer, MS Society, Complex Chronic Diseases Program, etc.), and eventually open a private practice where my passion, experience, and expertise come together to best serve those wishing to explore issues related to grief, bereavement, chronic and terminal illness, and chronic pain.
When working with me you'll notice that I utilize compassion, a dash of science, equal parts humour and authenticity, and a good helping of practical tools and education. People often describe me as warm, open, and down-to-earth. I am person-centred and trauma-informed, relying heavily on approaches based in mindfulness, attachment, and self-compassion while tailoring sessions to your unique needs and pace. I provide virtual support for individuals, couples, and families across Canada to help navigate difficult emotions, find meaning, and improve day-to-day coping.
Through our work together folks report feeling more understood, empowered, and equipped with tools to navigate difficult moments with greater ease. With the right tools and support I believe you can regain the balance needed to feel a sense of wholeness and stability, allowing you to live an authentic and fulfilling life.
I invite you to contact me for a free consultation to see if we may be the right fit to weather these waves together. I look forward to meeting you.

How counselling can help
Why counselling? Why now?
We all have internal sources of resilience and wisdom; however, times of challenge or difficulty can leave us feeling lost, and disconnected from these resources. Turning inwards is often the first step of regaining our sense of wholeness and stability, allowing for growth and freedom.
I view the process of counselling as an act of illuminating both our strengths as well as areas requiring mending. None of us are without cracks, it is what we do with these fractures that matters. Borrowing from the Japanese art form of kintsugi, where broken pottery is mended with laquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum to highlight the breaks, I believe that through a transformational process we can evolve to become something more beautiful than our original form. Through this mending we become stronger. It is not about striving for unblemished perfectionism, or trying to hide our cracks, but instead celebrating the change and growth that comes from the process of dismantling and repair. When life presents us with challenges cracks may form, but beauty, too, may be found here.
During times of challenge or transition therapy can provide a space where we may accept an invitation to slow down and engage in a process of inquiry that may lead to growth and repair. In a supportive environment we can tap into our innate wisdom and resilience, allowing us to examine our internal world with authenticity. While the process of dismantling and rebuilding can be difficult, it can also be rich in reward. Through counselling we may expand our awareness and begin to challenge habits and patterns that may block our paths to celebrating the most beautiful version of ourselves yet.
I would be honoured to walk along beside you as you take the time to connect to your centre to find a greater sense of wholeness.

Mindfulness
The benefits of mindfulness are far-reaching and backed by decades of research. While mindfulness meditation is one avenue of practice, there are many ways to incorporate mindfulness into your life to experience the many benefits it may bring. With over 15 years of practice, research, and teaching, I have seen these benefits first hand. This practice may be brought into our counselling sessions, or you may choose to join a 4-week online mindfulness workshop combining teaching and practicing for a more intensive experience.
